With Brexit ahead, the fight for national laws that promote higher welfare, sustainable farming has never been more important – and it’s vital that we have a better picture of the lives of British farm animals.

So Compassion has commissioned a national investigation which, for the first time, will start to answer the question: where are Britain’s hotspots for intensive farming?

We’re uncovering some remarkable results, but we need £20,000 to complete this project. Please will you help expose the truth about British farming with a gift today?

Intensive farming UK map

With your support we’ll be able to complete this bold and ambitious geographical analysis of UK farming practices. We’ll create an interactive online map summarising our findings for every county. And we’ll take this map to consumers – persuading them to fight for government action against factory farm cruelty.

Make a donation and you’ll appear in the credits of the UK Factory Farm Map. Your name will be on record as one of the visionaries who know that truth is power: The power to protect animals. The power to end suffering that is taking place, out of sight, on an industrial scale.

Put me in the credits

Yes, many British farmers raise their animals with compassion and respect. But 70% of Britain’s farm animals are kept in cages, overcrowded pens or sheds, denied the chance to express many of their most basic natural behaviours. And if we know where this is happening, we can persuade the government to take action.

Zero grazing dairy cattle

Compassion in World Farming campaigns peacefully against the monolithic factory farm system, not against the individuals who are cogs in this system. So instead of identifying the locations of specific farms, the Factory Farm Map will reveal which counties are hot spots for intensive farming, showing the scale of the cruelty taking place behind the backs of citizens in each area.

Wouldn’t it be incredible if we had the knowledge, the tools, to stop our local and national leaders turning a blind eye to animal suffering? Information is power, and this map will bust the myth that factory farming is something that happens ‘elsewhere’. Your gift could help change the face of British farming.

Please make a donation today to fund the UK’s first ever Factory Farm Map.

Thank you for believing in a better Britain for farm animals.

NB – Our investigation so far has shown how hard it is to tell a higher-welfare indoor farm from an intensive farm from the information available. However, where possible, our map will take higher-welfare indoor farming into account.
