Hens trapped in cages with little space

8 million hens in the UK deserve better

Double your donation!

Thanks to a generous supporter, every gift will be matched pound for pound up to £30,000.

We must free hens from cages

Shockingly, every year in the UK, 8 million egg-laying hens remain confined to cruel cages. Their eggs end up in everyday products like cakes and ready meals, but their suffering is hidden from view. These hens, treated as mere egg-laying machines, endure lives of misery. We must continue the fight to free them and end the cruelty inflicted on countless other farmed animals. Will you stand with us and donate today to help end their suffering?

No chance to live a natural life

Despite the name, ‘enriched,’ cages still prevent egg laying hens from living as they should naturally. They can’t scratch in the dirt for food, fly up to high perches to feel safe, or even give their wings a good flap to get comfortable. They won’t see daylight from the moment they are put into their cage, until the day they are taken for slaughter at around just 18 months old. Will you help us stop the cruelty inflicted on these poor hens and all farmed animals by donating today?

Together we can achieve this

Here are rescued hens Holly and Miranda, saved from slaughter after their time in cages. Their feathers have re-grown, and they are healthy again. All hens should live natural lives, and we are fighting to make this happen. Our team is busy; ensuring media attention to keep farmed animal welfare in the public spotlight, undertaking research so we can show the hard evidence, and calling on Government and decision makers to bring about change. We are advocating for the UK to End the Cage Age for laying hens by 2028. A donation from you today will help fund this vital work – and fuel the fight to give all farmed animals a life worth living.

We need you

Our promise to you is to use your gift in the most effective manner possible to end factory farming:

  • Save Animals. Factory farming is the bigget cause of animal cruelty on the planet.
  • Save Our Planet. Factory farming intensifies climate change.
  • Save Wildlife. Factory farming threatens the survival of many animals and plants.
  • Save Our Future. Factory farming wastes resources, giving little food energy in return.
  • Save Our Health. Factory farming breeds disease and causes antibiotic resistance.

The vision, involvement, and investment of Compassion's supporters will help the world move past cruelty and destruction, sparking a new era in agriculture and farmed animal welfare.

Together, we can pioneer abundant, sustainable food that is free from animal suffering, now and for generations to come.
