Caged hens with feather loss

We have momentum – please help draw the line now

Banning hen cages in Britain could pave the way to free all farmed animals from misery. Draw the line on cages and cruelty. Every gift you make up to £40,000 will be matched!.

A hen's tragic life in a cage

Every day in the UK, nearly 7 million hens live their entire lives in crowded cages. Each bird has a space no bigger than an A4 sheet of paper. They can't behave naturally, they are forced to share a cage with 60 to 80 other hens; and every instinct is denied - from scratching in the dirt to stretching their wings, dustbathing, or perching. These animals suffer injury and stress.

Thanks to over 100,000 people signing our petition, Parliament has debated banning cages, now they must change the law. Your donation could help us end cages for hens and cruelty to all farmed animals.

Cruel crates for mother pigs

On factory farms, motherhood begins in a cage. Confined in farrowing crates, mother pigs can’t build a nest or comfort their babies. All they can do is watch their babies suckle through the bars. They endure weeks of physical discomfort and mental distress, unable to express the most basic maternal behaviours.

Thanks to generous donations our legal battle with the EU Commission to phase out cages is on track. Your donation could help us change welfare laws, in Europe and the UK.

The isolation of young calves

For many calves, the first weeks of life are spent alone, shut inside narrow pens. Isolation causes both mental distress and physical harm. These young animals are denied the comfort of companionship, fresh air, and room to explore, from the very start of life.

Together, we've helped ban live exports from Great Britain for fattening and slaughter, but factory farming continues. Without your donation, this progress is at risk.

The reality for rabbits

Rabbits are naturally curious and active animals. They love to hop, dig, and stretch up on their hind legs to explore. But caged life forces them into boredom and discomfort. They can’t dig, forage or socialise as they would in the wild. This isn’t farming, this is cruelty.

We're challenging cage use across the UK and EU. We've exposed cruelty through investigations. Your donation could help us shape laws that will improve the lives of millions of farmed animals.

We need you

Our promise to you is to use your gift in the most effective manner possible to end factory farming:

  • Save Animals. Factory farming is the bigget cause of animal cruelty on the planet.
  • Save Our Planet. Factory farming intensifies climate change.
  • Save Wildlife. Factory farming threatens the survival of many animals and plants.
  • Save Our Future. Factory farming wastes resources, giving little food energy in return.
  • Save Our Health. Factory farming breeds disease and causes antibiotic resistance.

The vision, involvement, and investment of Compassion's monthly supporters will help the world move past cruelty and destruction, sparking a new era in agriculture and farmed animal welfare.

Together, we can pioneer abundant, sustainable food that is free from animal suffering, now and for generations to come.
